International Conference : Where is Iraq going ? : The process of economical and political rebuilding - inventory, problems and perspectives

Organized by the Kurdish Institute of Paris


Almost one year after the fall of Saddam Hussein's regime, where is Iraq going ? What is changed in Iraqis' daily life ? How is the reconstruction of infrastructures, the functionning of basic services, schools, universities, hospitals ? How does progress safety ? How does civilian society organize itself in spite of terrorist attacks and security problems ? How do Iraqi use their new freedom concerning associations, expression and demonstration ? What are the problems of the transitionnal process toward a sovereign government in Iraq ? Is there a risk of splitting in Iraq or will it success to assure its unity by federalist institutions that would allow to Kurds and other formerly oppressed populations to manage themselves ? Which step has reached the debate on federalism ? What is the situations of Christian communities and how protect their rights and safety ?

In the aim to answer to these question and to many others concerning Iraq, some important Iraqi personnalities, fully involved in the process of rebuilding of their country and its future will come to Paris and will contribute to inform the French public...

Anfter their speeches public debates in the room conference will try to study thoroughly these questions and to promote an exchange of ideas.

At the end, a final roundtable will aim to start a collective reflection on the role that could play France and European Union in the rebuilding of Iraq, considering that many EU countries, as UK, Spain, Italia, Nederlands, Portugal, Denmark bring already various contributions.

This conference of information is opened to public in sofar as vacant places. A preliminary registration must be made to the Kurdish Institute of Paris (including press members).
